Boating [ Open New Window ]

*Whitewater Rafting on Laonong River
Laonong River is the main branch of Gaoping River’s upstream, the largest river in southern Taiwan. The scenery is picturesque with cliffs on the two sides, rip currents and waterfalls. All makes it a heaven for rafting. The distance is about 12.5 kilometers, taking 2 hours to complete the rafting journey. Summer times from May to October is the best timing for rafting, but please avoid rafting in raining season or when a typhoon attacks.

Whitewater rafting on Laonong River held in summer has become the best liked water activity in southern Taiwan. The rips along the river makes the journey especially exciting. Sometimes some rafts even turn upside down, so security equipments are very important when taking part in rafting. Recently, Baolai No.1 Bridge has been decorated with blue-toned lightening. As dusk falls, the lights make the bridge and the river even more beautiful.

Bulao Hot spring [ Open New Window ]

*Bulao Hot spring
Bulao hot spring area is located on the east bank of Laonong River. Its development could be traced back to the 1970s.

Along the road heading to Baolai, hot spring hotels line up on the two sides. Bulao hot spring is weak alkali thermal springs. The water feels slippery and good for your skin. Wood cabins built on the hills scatter in an ordered way. Betel nut trees are also grown here that bring some south Asian touches to the atmosphere. Newly built hot spring hotels have added many recreation facilities. And indigenous chickens, poultries, pork and vegetables are the best ingredients for wonderful dishes.

The Jiguanshan Trail [ Open New Window ]

*The Jiguanshan Trail
Mount Jiguan (pronounced as Jiguanshan in Chinese) has an elevation of less than 100 meters, but its unique topographic appearance is fascinating. The mountain in fact is the result of karst limestone formation. Depending on where you stand, Mount Jiguan may be conical hills closely adjacent to one another or isolated towers. Its jagged top looks like a rooster comb, from which its name is derived (Jiguan means rooster comb in Chinese). The independent column-like hills are referred to as “soldering iron hills”. The exposed rock beds of Mount Jiguan are embedded with a lot of shell fossils. A visit to Mount Jiguan can also be a field trip for geological studies. The entrance of the trail is at its foot across from Jinshan Elementary School. The trail is not very long. You will get the best views on the mountaintop, especially if you are interested in badland—the Moon World.
