Kaohsiung County is a region of beautiful mountains and river. There are numerous ecological sceneries in the county. Along the highway is Jhongliao Mountain and beautiful sceneries. Though the mountain is not very tall, there are no other tall mountains in the neighborhood to block the view. Standing at the top of the mountain, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the vast plain in southern Taiwan.
Follow the mountain up, you will find “Teinliao Moon World” on the west of the highway. In southern Taiwan, there are heavy and torrential rains in summers. The soil in Tienliao was mainly composed of friable mudstone, and has been gradually washed away after years of rains. What is left is a tract of barren land with erosion marks which resembles the surface of the Moon. Geographically, the moon world is a typical badland resulted from the strong erosion of rain. The special landscape is definitely eye-catching. The ecological resources in the wetland in Yongan Township can compete that in the mangrove in Danshui, Taipei. The wetland in Yongan is reputed with its sea purslane (Avicennia marina). The wetland used to be a slat pan, but its natural features were reproduced with the ecological projects implemented by the Kaohsiung county government.
Enter the mountains, and you will find Tengjih National Forest Recreational Area in which are enjoyable sceneries, beautiful mountains, broad-leaved trees, and an artificial forest that nests birds and natural ecology. Visitors enjoy a green shower in the recreational area and release their tensions. After the green shower, Liouguei Butterfly Valley awaits you. The butterfly valley locates in the valley of Hongshui Stream and Jhujiao Stream in Liouguei Township. The temperature in the valley is steady because the valley is shielded by surrounding mountains. Also, because of the Kassod trees in the valley that make the best home for butterflies, the valley is the best shelter for butterflies from harsh winter and to breed. The winding rivers, dancing butterflies in the sky and the numerous butterflies resting on the branches will all take your breath away in astonishment. There are over 280 species of butterflies in Taiwan, and over 250 species of them reside in the valley. The valley is well deserved with the reputation “Kingdom of Butterfly”. Coming next is Nanzihsian River, the largest river in Sanmin Township. The river originated from Yushan Mountains, through Kaohsiung county and converged into the mainstream of Gaoping River in Cishan. The mainstream is never dry and the crystal clear water has nurtured fishes. With the deep drenches and huge gaps, the river valley is the nature's miracle. Lastly, the unique combination of waves, beaches, sunshine, piers, fishing boats, and villages along the coast in Kaohsiung County will help release your tension at all times. Whenever you come, with whatever emotions, you will feel yourself a part of the universe, and you will be recharged and be able to face your life satisfactorily. Kaohsiung County is worthy of visiting and will open your minds. |
