 Wandering in the Wild

Whitewater Rafting on Laonong River The rare mud volcano in Southern Taiwan is a “must see” attraction in Kaohsiung County. Three vents have been established as the top tour for volcano observation. Volcanic activity in Kaohsiung is a major public resource that will allow everyone to appreciate nature.

Further south is Baolai hot spring in Liouguei Township, the home of hot springs in Southern Taiwan. Baolai is located off Nanheng Highway. The hot spring is famous for its rare, weak carbonic acid.

Moving on to the Shaonian River Scenic Area, it is renowned for its “Youth Gorge”, “Shaonian Waterfalls”, and “Golden Waterfall”. The unforgettable primitiveness of the scenic park presented by the great water and mountain will not be soon forgotten.

The water of Taluo Stream flows through the dominating mountains. Taluo Stream is not open to the public at the moment. Its ‘Bodhidharma Waterfall’, which vividly resembles the shape of the Buddhist monk Bodhidharma, is hidden in the remote mountainous area. An in-depth exploration of Bodhidharma Waterfall must be done with an aboriginal tour guide.

The final stop is the primitive Maolin Valley. The original name of Maolin Valley is Luomusih, which means beautiful valley in the Lukai language. Such a pretty name encompasses the elegance of the astonishing scenery of water and mountains. The landscape and nature ecology of Kaohsiung County are waiting for your visit.

Kaohsiung County is abundant in its diversified landscape and natural scenery, which provide great opportunities for people to relax or enjoy outdoor activities. People will be amazed by the marvelous ‘craftsmanship’ of nature. While embracing the wilderness, people realize how trivial their existence is in the world.
