The Laonong River is one of the most important rivers in Kaohsiung and Pingdong areas. The origin of the river locates near Siouguluan Mountain, Ashuiku Mountain, and Yushan East Peak. The fashion of rafting started in Siouguluan River, and whitewater rafting has been a popular summer activity in Taiwan since then.
The Laonong River is the second largest river in Taiwan. Because the river locates in a longitudinal valley, 7 tributaries and many minor tributaries joined the Laonong River along the way, the river has turbulent flows, and is suitable for promoting rafting. |

The part of the Laonong River suitable for whitewater rafting is divided into two sections. Starting from Baolai to Sinfa, the upper section is full of torrents and rapids with a nearly 100-meter drop in the watercourse. It is not uncommon that rafts turn upside-down here. This section definitely is a highly thrilling itinerary. The lower section starts from Liuguei and ends in Sinwei. The watercourse here is wider and the current is gentler as the drop here is quite moderate. This section, on the other hand, is a more popular route for everyone. Laonong River has the most abundant water from May till October which is the best season of a year for whitewater rafting. If you are looking for a really thrilling and repeatedly exciting activity, go whitewater rafting on Laonong River!
