*Syunfon Fort
Xunfeng Fort(a stele or stela with carved inscription) [ Open New Window ] Longshan Temple in Fongshan has been standing for more than 300 years. The antique temple of the remote past has a very hoary look. Although the temple has repeatedly gone through five major renovations, only the beams, columns and roof tiles were replaced. No matter what their comprehensive designs or partial structures were, the other parts of the building, such as the ceramic ornaments on the roof, clay sculptures, designs of the gable surfaces, base, column foundation, stone carving, wooden construction frame, carving windows as well as drawings on gates and walls, are all preserved in the integrity as the way they were. Because of its exquisite carvings on the beams, eaves and columns, the refined and vivid styles of the gables, wooden windows and clay sculptures as well as the classical elegance of the temple, the Longshan Temple has been categorized as a Grade Two historic site by the Ministry of Interior, sharing the equal honor with Grade One historic site Longshan Temple in Lugang and Grade Two historic site Longshan Temple in Bangka, Taipei City. The temple is one of the major attractions that cannot be missed when visiting Fongshan City.

*Sanhe Kiln of Earthen Roof Tiles
Sanhe Kiln of Earthen Roof Tiles(flank) [ Open New Window ] The construction materials of traditional Taiwan folk architecture are mainly bricks and earthen roof tiles which are completely made from manually operated earthenware kilns. Dashu Township is the center of earthen tile kilns in Taiwan. There used to be more than 130 kilns during its heyday. As reinforced concrete and reinforced steel structures became the mainstream of architecture, the market of earthen tile kiln industry had rapidly withered and was no longer thriving. Solitarily abiding in the tradition, Sanhe Kiln of Earthen Roof Tiles in Dashu Township is the only one left in Southern Taiwan. Nevertheless, the kiln is actively reforming itself by integrating "leisure, industry, culture and education" into a multi-role development. Hopefully a new life of tile kiln industry can be generated again so that the tradition can be continuously developed and handed down forever from one generation to another.
